Cours de Cuisine ont Commence!

7 Sep

And now for the meaty part of this adventure (as always, please excuse any cheesy food-related puns)…

On Monday I began my first day of classes at La Cuisine De Marie Blanche, a small cooking school in the heart of Paris’ elegant 7ème arrondissement. Over the next four weeks I will learn the basics of French cooking and baking, as well as Art de Vivre which is the French way of life surrounding hosting and entertaining. This includes table settings, floral and other centerpiece arrangements, as well as proper etiquette when hosting a party or attending one as a guest. So basically when all this is said and done, I will be one amazing little house-wife-to-be, or I’ll just be able to have unbelievable dinner parties. Either way, I’m very excited and so far very impressed.

The wonderful woman that runs this school is Princess Marie-Blanche de Broglie, a well-adored French chef who has a history with Julia Child (they both trained at Le Cordon Bleu Paris), and frequently tours around the world speaking about French food and her relationship with her hilarious and very famous contemporary. Her right-hand-man is the delightful and friendly Laurent who helps her organize the business and teaches some of the Art de Vivre classes.

The atmosphere is warm and homey and the classes are extremely informative but somewhat relaxed. We eat what we cook and take home what we create, such as this lovely floral centerpiece we made today.

I could not be happier with my decision to learn at this school, and I look forwards to sharing bits and pieces our daily lessons with you.

À  la prochaine!
